This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Saturday the 14th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 44,000 - GBP 48,000. When Datsun introduced the 240Z in 1969, it fundamentally changed perceptions of Japanese sports cars. With its handsome long-bonnet styling, smooth straight-six engine, independent suspension and impressive performance, the 240Z offered a compelling alternative to established European machinery. Its combination of engineering, reliability and driving enjoyment quickly established an enthusiastic following, particularly in the UK, where its considerable performance potential was soon recognised. Amongst those who saw the possibilities was Spike Anderson, whose Race Head Services operation developed the celebrated Samuri conversions. Through extensive engine development, suspension improvements and distinctive styling, Anderson transformed the already capable 240Z into a formidable road and competition car. The distinctive Nissan Red and Rootes Tango Bronze colour scheme became synonymous with the Samuri name, whilst the performance and competition successes of these modified Z-cars established a reputation that continues to resonate with enthusiasts today. Original Samuri conversions are now amongst the most desirable of all early Datsun Z-cars, and their rarity has encouraged the creation of carefully considered replicas, particularly those incorporating genuine components associated with Anderson's original engineering. The example offered here began life as a 1972 American-market Datsun 240Z, subsequently imported into the UK and first registered here on 1st August 2020. Based upon what the vendor describes as a 'rust-free' US import, it underwent a comprehensive bare-metal restoration in 2025 by marque specialists, The Z Farm. The car has also been converted to right-hand drive and is finished in the distinctive red and bronze Samuri colour scheme, incorporating a number of period-inspired details and performance upgrades in keeping with Spike Anderson's celebrated conversions. The mechanical specification is particularly noteworthy. Built by DJ Road & Race, the 2.8-litre straight-six engine has been developed to Samuri specification and, importantly, incorporates a genuine Spike Anderson cylinder head. This is a significant feature of the build, providing a particularly interesting link to the original Samuri conversions and distinguishing it from more conventional cosmetic recreations. Fuel is supplied through triple Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, whilst a tubular exhaust manifold and custom-made Tony Law exhaust system complete the engine's breathing arrangements. The resulting specification is understood to offer the potential for approximately 230bhp, a substantial increase over the standard 240Z's output. The chassis has been upgraded accordingly, incorporating adjustable BC coil-over suspension, ventilated front brake discs with four-pot calipers and period-style Minilite alloy wheels. These improvements provide a suitably developed mechanical package whilst retaining the essential character of the original car. According to the vendor, all mechanical components were either new or reconditioned to original equipment standards during the restoration. With only minimal mileage covered since completion, the engine will require further careful running-in before its full performance potential can be enjoyed. The odometer indicated 61,521 miles at the time of cataloguing. Whilst correctly described as a Samuri replica rather than an original Anderson-converted example, this 240Z offers an appealing combination of specialist restoration, authentic Samuri-related componentry and carefully considered mechanical upgrades.

The Datsun 2000 Sports was one of the fastest domestic production cars introduced in 1967, featuring the U20 engine, a 2-liter powerhouse that produced 150 hp. It featured a robust 5-speed manual gearbox with Porsche synchro, which was extremely rare at the time. It could accelerate from 0 to 400 meters in just 15.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 205 km/h. This performance was unprecedented for its time, making it a competent sports car. As a result, the 2000 achieved notable success in racing, including impressive results at the Japan GP in 1967 and the Rallye Monte-Carlo in 1968. This Japanese-imported example is in fantastic condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. It is also a scarce and desirable first-year production car, believed to be one of only around a thousand cars ever made. - Over forty years of single ownership in California - Fully restored to original colours, ready to be driven and enjoyed - Exceptional history file dating back to 1971. Completed in August of 1971, this 240Z was sold new via Heines Oldsmobile Datsun of Victorville, CA to Carole Ann Obser of nearby Apple Valley, located in San Bernadino County, northeast of Los Angeles, on September 29, 1971. A temporary California Department of Motor Vehicles identification card for a used vehicle can be found in the file, showing that the car was sold from Ms. Obser (wearing the California vanity plate "OBSER") to James Norman Squires of Victorville, purchased by him on Boxing Day 1972. Subsequent documentation in the car’s truly exceptional history file show that this was not Mr. Squires, but Captain Squires of the United States Air Force. Victorville was home to the George Air Force Base, which was used extensively as a training facility for both U.S. and foreign pilots in fighter jets. The file shows that in the mid 1970s, Captian Squires moved to Sacremento, but he would retain the car for the following four decades, carefully preserved in Califonia’s dry climate. Finally sold by him in 2018, the car was purchased by enthuaists in the Netherlands directly from Captain Squires Following a full restoration in its original colours, the car was road registered and presents in truly exceptional condition both inside and out. Obviously a significant purchase for Captain Squires and an important partner in life for over forty years, it is rare to see a 240Z with such a well-documented history. This alone warrants significant attention and helps this car to stand proud amongst its peers. One would be hard pressed to find a more interesting 240Z anywhere. This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Saturday the 14th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 80,000 - GBP 100,000. Introduced in 1969, the Datsun 240Z quickly established itself as one of the defining sports cars of its era. With its long bonnet, fastback profile and lively six-cylinder engine, it offered an appealing combination of performance, style and everyday usability, bringing a distinctly sporting Japanese coupé to a much wider audience. Its enduring design and engaging driving characteristics have since secured the original 'Z' a place among the most admired classic sports cars. MZR Roadsports has built a reputation for its specialist restoration and re-engineering of the 240Z, bringing a thoughtful, modern approach to a much-loved classic. Rather than simply returning these cars to their original specification, MZR undertakes carefully considered commissions that seek to preserve the essential character and visual appeal of the Z while improving its performance, usability and refinement. With an emphasis on craftsmanship, engineering and attention to detail, the workshop has developed a distinctive approach to creating individualised 240Zs for contemporary road use. The Sport Edition offered here is an all-steel bodied build and a particularly appealing expression of that philosophy. Commissioned by our vendor in 2018, the project began with a consultation period to establish the ideal specification for an engaging fast-road and weekend car followed by the sourcing of a sold donor car from California. The brief was to remain faithful to the original design while incorporating the modern engineering and technology for which MZR is known. The chosen colour scheme pairs a period-inspired light blue (Porsche Riviera Blue) exterior with a black interior, while the anthracite finish to the engine compartment and alloy wheels provides a considered, cohesive contrast. The completed car is beautifully presented, and has been thoroughly enjoyed by its owner, who describes it as ‘an absolute hoot to drive’, bringing a smile every time the key is turned and attracting ‘only the right kind of attention’. Since completion, the car has covered 3,783 miles and has been carefully maintained by an expert in-house mechanic. It is accompanied by a history file that includes images documenting the build, together with the California registration plate, ZZZ MAN. For the next owner, this is an opportunity to enjoy the results of a substantial bespoke commission without having to source a suitable donor car, navigate the build process or wait for a specialist project to reach completion. The vision, engineering and craftsmanship have already been brought together in one beautifully presented package. Offering the character and unmistakable style of the original 240Z with the benefits of MZR's considered development, this Sport Edition is an enticing proposition for anyone seeking a distinctive classic to enjoy on the road.Transmission: Manual
