De Tomaso Pantera L. HUGE HISTORY PORTFOLIO. IMMACULATE EXAMPLE. 5.8 2dr

- Produced in May of 1973, delivered new to Chicago - One of 90 original painted Green for the 1973 model year - Presently restored in Grabber Blue over Black - American performance and reliability alongside Italian styling According to the accompanying Marti Report, this Pantera was completed in Italy in May of 1973. Originally finished in Green paintwork, one of 90 painted as such for 1973, the car was outfitted with air conditioning, Magnesium sport wheels, power windows with tinted glass, and full instrumentation. Powered by the 351 cubic inch Cleveland V-8 engine rated at 330 bhp, power is managed through a ZF five-speed transaxle and four-wheel power disc brakes with an all-independent suspension. Needless to say, the Pantera was no slouch, capable of a top speed in excess of 240 km/h. Just 1,258 Panteras were produced from 1971-1974. Released from the factory in September of 1973, the Pantera was put on a boat and shipped to Bernes Lincoln-Mercury of Chicago via the Port of Newark. All Panteras sold new in the U.S. were sold via Lincoln-Mercury dealerships. Sold new on February 22, 1974, unfortunately little is known of the Pantera’s subsequent history. Today, it is registered in the Netherlands and has been restored in in Ford’s iconic Grabber Blue paintwork with a black leather interior by specialist Martin Dijkhof of Achterveld. According to the consignor, €80,000 was spent on the car during his ownership. A truly fascinating partnership between Ford, De Tomaso, and Ghia, the Pantera brings the very best of Italian craftsmanship alongside American performance and reliability. Well-presented in one of the most eye-catching and period correct colour schemes for the model, this example would sit proudly alongside its contemporaries from Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini. 1973 De Tomaso Pantera

Few names evoke the same visceral thrill as De Tomaso Pantera. Born from the fusion of Italian design flair and American muscle, the Pantera redefined what a grand touring car could be - raw performance wrapped in seductive Italian style. This particular example, a 1972 Pantera L, embodies that spirit entirely: a car that has lived, loved, and been lovingly restored with authenticity and precision. First registered in Los Alamitos, California in 1972, this Pantera led a charmed early life - driven regularly and enjoyed in the way its creators intended. Over the years, it accumulated a modest 26,000 miles before being tucked away for 15 years in completely original condition. A time capsule of Italian-American engineering, waiting to be rediscovered. On August 22nd, 1993, the car found its next custodian in Redlands, California. What followed was a full, sympathetic restoration - a process carried out with a meticulous respect for originality, yet an eye for subtle improvement. The body was stripped back to its bare metal, revealing remarkably solid underpinnings with only minor areas of corrosion, all carefully rectified before preparation for paint. The transformation culminated in a respray of breathtaking depth - a deep blood red finish that accentuates every curve and crease of the Pantera’s Giorgetto Giugiaro–penned form. Complementing this, all exterior trim was powder-coated in black, providing a sharp contrast that underlines the car’s purposeful stance. In the pursuit of purist aesthetics, the later ‘L’-style impact bumpers were replaced with the earlier, more elegant bumperettes — finished in satin black to complete the look. The result is a Pantera that exudes both vintage authenticity and visual drama. During its time in California, this Pantera became a well-known figure on the West Coast concours circuit. Among its appearances were: Las Vegas, 1997 – Participant with the Pantera Owners Club of America Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, 1997 – 2nd in Class 1994 Mustang 30-Year Celebration – Participant 1st Annual State Farm Founders Day Car Show, Rancho Cucamonga – 2nd Place Monterey Events – Participant Each event underscored the car’s exceptional condition and the admiration it commands among enthusiasts. While largely faithful to its original specification, a few tasteful upgrades nod to the Pantera’s GT5 lineage. Small vents were added to the bonnet to improve airflow, and a Momo Prototipo steering wheel - as fitted to later GT5 models - replaced the original, giving a more tactile and driver-focused feel. It still proudly wears its original Campagnolo magnesium rims, Ansa exhaust tips, and slightly wider rear bumpers. The original ‘L’ bumpers are retained, now finished in black to harmonise with the car’s dramatic exterior treatment. This Pantera is accompanied by an extensive portfolio chronicling its remarkable life - including photographs documenting its first total restoration, a California vehicle appraisal, original invoices from its time in the U.S., and a collection of awards and certificates from its various concours appearances. Presented today in outstanding condition, this 1972 De Tomaso Pantera L represents a rare opportunity to acquire a car with deep provenance, rich history, and a restoration that speaks to both passion and precision. A car equally at home gracing the lawns of a concours or devouring the open road, this Pantera perfectly captures the essence of Premier GT - performance, provenance, and pure emotion.

De Tomaso Pantera L. HUGE HISTORY PORTFOLIO. IMMACULATE EXAMPLE.

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 on Saturday the 14th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. Estimated price: GBP 75,000 - GBP 85,000. Having established his credentials as a serious manufacturer of sporting cars with the Mangusta, Alejandro De Tomaso turned his attention to a more ambitious mid-engined supercar, the Pantera. Introduced in 1971, it combined Italian design and engineering with the considerable muscle of Ford's 351ci (5.8-litre) Cleveland V8. The chassis and body adopted unitary construction, replacing the Mangusta's backbone frame, while a ZF five-speed transaxle provided the transmission. Styled by Tom Tjaarda at Carrozzeria Ghia, the striking coupé body was built by Vignale, both companies then part of De Tomaso's wider operation. The result was a compelling transatlantic blend of Italian sophistication and American V8 performance. De Tomaso's relationship with Ford also brought the Pantera to a wider audience, with cars distributed in the United States through selected Lincoln-Mercury dealerships. The model evolved considerably over its production life, gaining successive mechanical and cosmetic revisions while retaining its distinctive mid-engined character. Production continued through a series of developments until 1993, giving the Pantera an unusually long life for an exotic sports car and securing its place among the most distinctive performance cars of its era. The car offered here at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2026 is a 1971 example, identified as chassis THPNLS01945 and understood to be an early, narrow-body, flat-deck ‘Pre-L’ model. Delivered new to Arizona, it was subsequently imported into the UK and registered here in 2020 by an enthusiast collector. Since then, it has been maintained by an in-house mechanic and specialist workshop, with numerous invoices on file documenting the work undertaken and several considered updates intended to enhance drivability and reliability. Presented in glorious Rosso, the Pantera features a smartly appointed cabin trimmed in black leather with contrasting ivory inlays and, at the time of cataloguing, the speedometer indicated just over 35,000 miles. The accompanying history file includes the specialists invoices and UK V5C registration document, offering useful insight into its more recent ownership and maintenance. In summary, this is an appealing opportunity to acquire a highly desirable early Pantera, combining the character and rarity of the original narrow-body cars with a documented programme of specialist attention and sensible updates. For the enthusiast seeking an engaging example of De Tomaso's celebrated Italian-American supercar, it is a particularly attractive proposition.Transmission: Manual
